The Facts: Holmes said that he won't sign his restricted free agent tender and only wants a long-term contract extension. Holmes is expected to be an unrestricted free agent whenever the labor dispute is resolved unless the 2010 free agency rules are used. "I want a contract, flat out," Holmes told ESPN New York and the New York Daily News. "If I sign a contract, it will be for multiple years. It won't be for one year."
Diehards Line:As NFP's Aaron Wilson added, at this point, Holmes isn't inclined to sign his $3.5 million tender. "I played five years to wait for my sixth year to come up," Holmes said. "I don't want to play for a one-year deal. I wouldn't do it." Holmes didn't say he definitely wanted to re-sign with the Jets, although that might be a bargaining tactic. Holmes was noncommittal when asked what he would do if the Jets' offer and competing offers were the same. "That's a tough question right there," said Holmes, who caught 52 passes for 746 yards and six touchdowns last season following a four-game suspension. "I'm going to leave that one undisclosed. I don't know right now. I don't know what the odds are of me staying a Jet or moving on."
