The Facts: Following up on a previous item. ... The agent for Owens said the NFL player is on the mend from a torn left anterior cruciate ligament after undergoing surgery and predicted that he'll be ready for the season. Drew Rosenhaus said that Owens, 37, had the injury repaired by Dr. James Andrews in early April and “will be playing at the start of the NFL season.”
Diehards Line:As NFP staffer Aaron Wilson suggests, that's a fast time table even with today's medical advances. Characterizing a report that Owens was thinking about retirement as "nonsense," Rosenhaus characterized Owens' outlook as "fantastic." The agent wouldn't say how the injury happened, though. “The old injury has been repaired,” Rosenhaus said. “He is many months into recovery and doing fantastic. No predictions on training camp, but he comes back fast from injuries. I won’t rule him out of anything. He will be a starting receiver for someone this year. All the retirement talk is nonsense. There’s been no discussion about that and this injury is not a big deal. ..." Sounds good. But we'd still advise Fantasy Football owners to take a wait and see approach with Owens. We suspect a number of NFL teams will be doing the same.
