The Facts: Following up on an ongoing story. ... According to San Diego Union-Tribune staffer Kevin Acee, Gates is planning to practice on Thursday.
Diehards Line:Gates opened camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list, which allowed him to do rehab work and take part in team meetings but not practice. He recently admitted to still being bothered by plantar fasciitis in his right foot. While he hasn't practiced yet, Gates has done sprints and agility works on a side field since training camp opened last week. Gates missed six games last year because of the plantar fasciitis, inflammation in the heel and the bottom of the foot. At this point, there's no reason to worry about the situation. We'll follow up as needed in coming days but Gates remains a consensus No. 1 tight end on our current Staff Rankings.
