The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... New Orleans Saints HC Sean Payton will appeal his year-long suspension Friday, according to a league source. The coach is also expected to seek guidance on the amount of time he will have to prepare his appeal, and will attempt to obtain the full reports from NFL security regarding the bounty evidence against him. According to NFL.com's Steve Wyche, the NFL will not comment on Payton's appeal.
Diehards Line:Payton had until April 2 to appeal. Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear in remarks to the media earlier this week that the appeals process will be expedited. The process is unlikely to last more than a week or so. Payton was suspended for the 2012 season by the NFL as a result of his involvement in the "bounty" program that the Saints ran from 2009 to 2011, while Gregg Williams was the DC there. Williams was suspended indefinitely. After much deliberation, he does not plan to appeal his suspension, according to NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora.
