The Facts: Moreno, who suffered a torn ACL last November, continues to go through rehab with the Broncos' medical staff at the team's complex. But he likely would not be cleared to participate fully in training camp or even early in the season.
Diehards Line:As Post staffer Jeff Legwold explained, the Broncos could buy a few weeks of time before they have to make a roster decision by opening training camp with Moreno on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Thus, Moreno couldn't practice with the team at that point but could continue his rehab. If he opens the regular season on the PUP list, Moreno cannot play or practice for the first six weeks of the season. That said, with the offense the Broncos will run featuring Peyton Manning behind center, there would be a place for a back who catches the ball as well as Moreno does. Also, Moreno is well-versed in pass protection -- a must for any NFL back to play on third down. But HC John Fox wants some more muscle in the backfield in support of 30-year-old Willis McGahee and Moreno is coming off a February arrest for DUI. ... Bottom line? The Broncos are still on the hunt for depth at running back, and it is likely they will select at least one in the upcoming draft.
