The Facts: The Vikings will take a chance on Simpson. The team agreed to terms with the athletic receiver on a one-year deal on Tuesday, hours after ESPN reported Simpson will be suspended three games under the NFL's substance-abuse policy.
Diehards Line:Simpson, 26, met with Vikings officials on Saturday and left on Sunday morning without a contract. He also had drawn interest from the St. Louis Rams but remained on the market six weeks after free agency opened. ... According to 1500ESPN.com's Tom Pelissero, the Vikings looked extensively into Simpson's background before bringing him in for a visit and apparently were comfortable enough with what they found to give him a shot. Simpson will be eligible to participate in all of the Vikings' offseason workouts and training camp. His suspension will begin the week of the regular-season opener, and he'll be eligible to rejoin the team for practice leading up to their Week 4 game at Detroit.
