The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... Peterson is "wide open" in terms of his cutting and flexibility on the field, but almost six months after reconstructive knee surgery he still needs to regain strength in the rest of his left leg before he can take the ultimate test in practice.
Diehards Line:Peterson addressed the media Wednesday during the Vikings' second day of mini-camp. He is limited to non-contact drills but was optimistic he would rejoin his teammates in some capacity when training camp opens July 26. "My goal is to be able to go out and participate somewhat during training camp," he said. "How much, I'm sure, the staff will evaluate things and let me know. I'm just going to go with the flow. ..." HC Leslie Frazier is pleased with Peterson's progress, noting he has suffered no setbacks during his rehabilitation. But hurdles remain. "We need to see him cut and be able to explode out of a cut without any residual effects before determining maybe he can put the pads on," Frazier said. Peterson expects to be ready when Minnesota opens the season Sept. 9 against the Jaguars. We're still not sold, but stay tuned.
