The Facts: The legal process is still unfolding stemming from Rice's February arrest. But as it does, the Ravens RB is working to prove he can return to form after a frustrating 2013 season. Rice averaged just 3.1 yards per carry in 2013, the lowest average in the NFL among running backs who carried the ball at least 160 times. But still just 27, Rice believes he can get back to being that type of player. His trainer, Kyle Jakobe, believes that as well. For starts, Rice is dropping weight. He's already dropped around 15 pounds in the last two months or so. He weighed in at 210 Friday.
Diehards Line:
According to Jakobe, Rice's goal is to get down to around 205. While Jakobe and others have made it clear the hip injury that Rice dealt with for most of the season was more a problem than Rice let on, his weight and conditioning were too. Jakobe said that Rice left for training camp in July weighing 204 pounds. By the end of the season, the 5-foot-8 Rice weighed around 225.
That's 13 pounds heavier than his listed playing weight. "He was definitely too heavy last year," Jakobe said. And now he's doing something about it. It's worth noting and watching.
