There is no word of a breakthrough in talks from either side, and the lack of signed first-round picks immediately ahead or behind Benson makes a quick settlement unlikely. As a result, head coach Bears head coach Lovie Smith calls Thomas Jones his starter.

Of course, it's common for a team to apply pressure to an unsigned draft pick that way and there's no way that Benson isn't given every opportunity to move past Jones once he signs. The only question now is when that actually happens.
