The Facts:
Campbell is expected to miss the first week of training camp because of appendicitis, team vice president Stephen Jones said. "It's a tough deal," Jones added. "But at least it happened early. Hopefully, Dan won't be out long." Camp begins today with physical conditioning tests. Practice starts Saturday, with sessions in the morning and afternoon.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Campbell is regarded as one of the NFL's top blocking tight ends. He missed the last 13 games last season after suffering torn ligaments in his foot during a Monday night game against Washington. His illness will allow the Cowboys to take a look at two second-year players battling for a roster spot: Sean Ryan and Brett Pierce.
