The Facts:
Although Davis is on the PUP and join teammates on the practice field, he pledged to be there soon. He wouldn't set an exact date, but said he's 85 to 90 percent healthy and didn't flinch when asked if an appearance in the third or fourth exhibition was realistic. Davis said he'd be playing at running back if the Panthers were in the playoffs right now.

John Fox and GM Marty Hurney have said for months that Davis would be held out of the early part of training camp in hopes he'll recover from microfracture surgery sufficiently to return this fall. ... We'll continue watch the veteran's progress, but our expectations are low.
