The Facts:
There has been no contract communication between the club and Benson's agent, Eugene Parker, since the team faxed a response to a letter from Parker Wednesday night. These exchanges have been conceptual ideas, not serious contract talks. Only five full practices are scheduled before the third preseason game next Saturday at Indianapolis, and it's doubtful at this point Benson could play in that game.

"That's not been our experience [with rookie holdouts]," Bears chairman of the board, Michael McCaskey, said. "That's the worry, it will affect their season. ..."
