Rex Grossman's Surgery A Success; Could Land On IR
(8/16 12:9 PT)

The Facts:
Grossman's ankle surgery Monday "went well," though general manager Jerry Angelo isn't sure when the quarterback will return. The Bears initially said Grossman would miss three to four months after being injured in Friday's preseason game at St. Louis. Angelo backed away from that slightly, saying they'll have a better idea after the medical staff meets on Tuesday. Reported by ESPN.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Chicago Tribune reported Grossman could go on injured reserve after Monday's surgery revealed an injury to his fibula as well as the ankle. Being put on injured reserve would end Grossman's season. Chad Hutchinson is now the starter, with rookie Kyle Orton and veteran Jeff Blake backing him up.

Kirk Bouyelas' View:
This injury could prove to have far reaching effects on the Bears offense. Without Grossman in the line-up, both the running game and passing game could take a hit. Chad Hutchinson and Kyle Orton are both very raw and will stuggle throughout the seaosn. As such, the value of WR Muhsin Muhammad and RB's Thomas Jones / Cedric Benson will suffer. While talk of a possible trade for Tim Rattay is rumored, the Bears are likely to stay pat.
