The Facts:
There is a strong possibility Davis will begin practicing early this week. As long as Davis isn't having problems with his surgically repaired knee, he's likely to be given a physical exam. If he passes, he's expected to begin practicing. Even if Davis practices early this week, it's unlikely he would play in Friday night's exhibition at Cleveland. A more realistic return would be the Sept. 1 preseason finale against Pittsburgh.

If Davis is healthy for the regular season, he and DeShaun Foster would likely split the feature back role -- with Foster handling hte bulk of the workload. The Panthers also have second-round pick Eric Shelton and have last year's leading rusher, Nick Goings, in reserve.
