The Facts:
Davis was on the field for the first time Monday morning, participating in a few individual drills. He was held out of team drills, but coach John Fox said Davis was scheduled to participate in full-contact afternoon session. He's not expected to play in Friday night's preseason game against Cleveland. He has targeted the Sept. 1 preseason finale against Pittsburgh as his first game.

Davis had microfracture surgery on his right knee last November and the Panthers have been hesitant to allow him to practice. He opened training camp on the physically unable to perform list, but said he believed he would be back in action before the end of the preseason. ... While he's unlikely to unseat DeShaun Foster as the team's lead back, a healthy Davis would cut into Foster's playing time.
