The Facts:
Orton is expected to be named the starting quarterback, perhaps today. Really, Lovie Smith has no other choice after Chad Hutchinson played himself out of the gig and maybe even out of the league. Smith can't turn to Jeff Blake, signed two weeks ago, because he has had only scarce opportunities. ''We don't change positions 30 minutes after a game,'' Smith said after Friday night's game. ''We go back, look at it and make a decision from there. I was really pleased with how Kyle played.''

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The numbers tell the story. Hutchinson was promoted in the wake of Rex Grossman's injury, and in two starts and 15 possessions, he completed eight passes, threw four interceptions, was sacked six times and fumbled once. As Sun-Times staffer Brad Biggs put it: "The mistakes Orton should be making, Hutchinson is. The decisive plays Hutchinson should be making, Orton is. Orton has a quicker release, stronger arm and better pocket presence. ..." All true. ... We'll have more on this as developments warrant.
