Droughns appears to have landed ahead of William Green to become the starting running back -- at least for now. "Reuben might've gone slightly ahead," Romeo Crennel said. "We'll see how the week goes, but his play might've given him a foot up." Crennel also said Lee Suggs is making progress but has been out so long that "now it's going to take some time to find out if he's going to be a difference maker."

Droughns gained 78 yards on 12 carries for a 6.5-yard average. In the first quarter, he gained 41 yards on six carries for a 6.8-yard average but still was replaced in the second quarter by William Green, who finished with 12 yards on four carries for a 3.0-yard average. Crennel was asked why both players played. "In preseason, they were somewhat equal," he said.
