Cooley Would Welcome Plaxico Burress To Redskins
(6/24 12:47 PT)

The Facts:
Veteran TE Chris Cooley told NFL.com that he believes Burress could come in and help the Redskins, who need some playmakers to step up even after drafting another project in Miami’s Leonard Hankerson. “I'm sure we'll try to sign Santana Moss back, but we need a big-time receiver," Cooley said. “We've got to have someone step in and fill that position." Reported by The National Football Post

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Redskins have been seeking help at WR since before the club invested second-round picks on Devin Thomas and Malcom Kelly in 2008. Now, the team's only reliable veteran threat, Santana Moss, is a free agent and the position has even more question marks than usual. Cooley believes Burress will be a changed man upon his return to the league. "In my opinion, Plaxico Burress probably is a guy that's humbled such as Michael Vick was, a lot, in the same situation," Cooley explained. "If you were going to take a risk on a guy that's a good player, he's probably the guy you're going to take a risk on. He'll probably step in a locker room, keep his mouth shut, work hard and try to earn his way back into the league the first season. ..." As NFP staffer Brad Biggs stressed, it remains to be seen if Mike Shanahan will also be high on Burress, who may not have as many suitors as some expect. Briggs added that few expect Burress to be a "big-time receiver" as Cooley suggests the team needs.
