Mediator To Meet With Players, Owners Jul. 19; Talks Will Continue In Interim
(7/9 12:30 PT)

The Facts:
Daniel Kaplan of the SportsBusiness Journal reports that mediator Arthur Boylan will “require” players and the league to meet with him July 19 in Minnesota, once he’s returned from vacation. Kaplan points out that the meeting won’t stop the players and owners from meeting on their own next week. In theory, the two sides could reach a deal which would seem to make the meeting unnecessary. Or. ... “That could mean Boylan does not think there will be a deal until july 19 at the earliest,” Kaplan writes. Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Meanwhile, NFL Network insider Albert Breer reports that next week’s labor talks will start with a similar structure to the last two weeks: The lawyers will start face-to-face work on Monday with owners and players expected to arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. This news comes on the heels of two days of talks described as frustrating with “little progress” made on Friday. PFT's Mike Florio reports a stalemate has arisen over the rookie wage scale. ... But again, we're trying not to get too excited by the highs or lows that are part and parcel of the negotiating process. And as PFT's Gregg Rosenthal reminded readers: "No matter how 'close' we hear things are and how much progress has been made, closing the deal is the hardest part." Stay tuned.
