Following up on the ongoing story. ... Plaintiffs, and star quarterbacks, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees expressed hope that a collective bargaining agreement will be hammered out soon. They are among the players who are plaintiffs in a class-action federal antitrust lawsuit in Minnesota. “We believe the overall proposal made by the players is fair for both sides and it is time to get this deal done," the statement reads on the NFL Players Association's lockout site. “This is the time of year we as players turn our attention to the game on the field. We hope the owners feel the same way.”

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello quickly responded to the statement. “We share the view that now is the time to reach an agreement so we can all get back to football and a full 2011 season. We are working hard with the players’ negotiating team every day to complete an agreement as soon as possible,” Aiello wrote via Twitter as an NFL comment. ... Now that both sides seem to agree it's time, let's see some genuine progress in talks this week. The lockout began on March 11. According to ESPN, a new deal could be ratified as soon as the NFL's league meetings July 21 in Atlanta. A proposed rookie wage scale has remained a sticking point in negotiations. ... Worth noting? Brees is scheduled to join the talks on Thursday. He has not been involved in negotiations since the talks fell apart in March, leading to the antitrust lawsuit and the lockout.
