Wednesday's Talks End With Report Of Undue Optimism
(7/13 6:16 PT)

The Facts:
According to Yahoo! Sports' columnist Michael Silver, it’s certainly possible that the two sides could come to a tentative agreement within the next week, allowing the owners to vote on it during their July 21 meeting in Atlanta and the lockout to be lifted in time for a full preseason schedule. Yet to suggest that such an outcome is a formality -- and that the basic framework of a deal is essentially in place -- is nowhere close to accurate. Reported by Yahoo! Sports

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
At least, not according to what Silver is being told by numerous sources familiar with the state of negotiations, one of whom was in the room for Wednesday’s lengthy sessions in New York. This despite very comments from Drew Brees earlier today suggesting an agreement is close. “Are we close? I wouldn’t say that at all,” one NFLPA executive committee member told Silver. “Drew is the eternal optimist, and yeah, it’s closer than it was a week ago. Could it happen quickly? Yes. But I’d be extremely surprised. ...” And while it's been widely reported that a disagreement over the rookie wage scale is the only remaining roadblock to a settlement, y, saying the two sides are still quarreling over the precise composition of the all revenue pie that would be split between them under the terms of a new CBA. ... Meanwhile, NFL Network's Albert Breer reports the two sides have called it a day. Talks are scheduled to resume Thursday.
