With the NFL closing in on a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement, owners and players will return to the negotiating table in a mediation setting on Monday and Tuesday to settle a handful of unresolved issues, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

The outstanding unresolved issues, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen:Players want restoration of $320 million in lost benefits from the 2010 uncapped season; players want to limit use of the franchise tag on unrestricted free agents to a one-time application; and settlement of the Brady antitrust lawsuit involving 10 named plaintiffs (perhaps limiting teams' ability to reapply the franchise tag multiple times. ... There are other issues involved, too. According to Profootballtalk.com's Mike Florio, with a deal now regarded by the media and fans and players and pretty much everyone else as a foregone conclusion, the NFLPA has by all appearances opted to go for one last home run. Florio added: "In theory, if the league calls the players’ bluff -- and if it ends up not being a bluff -- the whole thing could still blow up. ..." That seems unlikely, but we'll obviously be following up.
