Smith emphasized the decertification process was a long one, because it was a big decision. Says recertification process is extremely important. Smith stressed it would be taken seriously and the decision would be a sober one. ... Otherwise, Smith said the two sides continue to talk and that there are issues outstanding. Here's what needs to happen -- in the order it needs to happen: 1. Settle Brady v. NFL antitrust lawsuit; 2. the NFLPA must recertify as a union; 3. the NFLPA must ratify the new CBA. ... That last is based on an assumption that NFL owners will ratify the current agreement when they vote this afternoon (by 5:30 p.m. eastern time). ...
