this week's big non-labor story. ... Jim Irsay isn’t worried about Manning’s health yet. He’s just not entirely sure when Manning will start throwing to his teammates. The Colts owner told reporters Thursday in Atlanta he doesn’t expect offseason neck surgery to prevent Indianapolis’ franchise player from playing at his usually high level. “My sense is that he’s doing well,” Irsay said at the league’s owner meetings. “We’ve been through (his neck) surgery before. So I anticipate him being ready.”

Manning also had neck surgery in March 2010. ... The comments come one day after The Indianapolis Star reported that Manning would not be ready to participate at the start of training camp. Irsay did not elaborate on when Manning would start practicing. Which makes sense. After all, Star staffer Bob Kravitz made it clear that nobody really knows when Manning will be ready to practice. ... While Fantasy Football owners shouldn't panic over the situation, it's certainly requires you take it into account and keep a close eye on Manning throughout the month of August.
