In case you missed it, Edwards pleaded guilty on Friday to driving while intoxicated, after a Sept. 21 arrest in Manhattan. The guilty plea triggered a response in Cleveland, where he was on probation at the time of his arrest. The suspended jail sentence was conditional, meaning Edwards, who pleaded no contest to aggravated disorderly conduct in January 2010, would not have to serve it if he completed his probation without incident. But since he was arrested for DWI, and pleaded guilty, the court can now revisit the jail sentence. A decision will be reached Wednesday, a court spokesperson told Star-Ledger staffer Jenny Vrentas. ... Edwards is a free agent for the first time in his career. With the NFL's labor dispute settled, teams can negotiate with free agents starting tomorrow and can sign them to contracts beginning Friday. In other words, this probably isn't the best time for Edwards' legal issues rise so high on the radar.
