The Facts:
Following up on
the ongoing story. ... Colts owner Jim Irsay said he is prepared to make Manning the highest-paid player in the NFL. “I've offered to make him the highest-paid player,' Irsay said in a conference call, according to Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star. "(But) we need people to surround him and to have a chance to win a Super Bowl.'

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The way Irsay talked, a deal for Manning could potentially be completed in a matter of days. “(It) is a big priority and it's something I hope gets done very quickly,” Irsay said. But as NFP staffer Brad Biggs suggests, Manning can’t demand such a big piece of the pie that it limits the club from adding pieces around him. Per the Star report, the Colts previously offered Manning a deal averaging $20 million per season. If that couldn’t get it done, where could this thing go? The franchise tag this season -- if the Colts can’t hammer out an extension -- would cost $23.1 million. “Under the (new) system,' Irsay said, "you cannot pay a player $25 million. It's just not going to work. You're not going to be able to compete. ..." True. So Fantasy Football owners can expect Manning to get his long-term deal quickly despite
the neck issue that is expected to keep him from being ready for the start of training camp.
