Smith, coming off microfracture knee surgery, remains a free agent but G.M Jerry Reese said, “I understand Steve is getting healthier everyday and that’s all the comments I can really make about his health is that he is getting better.”

According to various reports, the Giants have made Smith an offer to return to the team. And given his questionable health, that seems to be his best option. Reese said that if Smith is brought back he could be placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list because it’s likely he won’t be ready for the start of the season.
