David Carr Joins Giants As Manning's Backup... Again
(8/1 1:57 PT)

The Facts:
Eli Manning has a new and familiar backup quarterback. Carr, who was Manning's backup in 2008 and 2009, is on his way back to New York to sign with the Giants, he announced on his Twitter account (@dcarr8). He was cut by the 49ers a few days ago. Reported by the New York Daily News

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
According to Daily News staffer Ralph Vacchiano, Carr's arrival likely means the end for Sage Rosenfels, who was Manning's backup last year after he was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. At least eventually. Rosenfels was due to make $3 million in salary this year, so if he is cut it will obviously give the Giants some salary-cap relief. ... Carr, a former No. 1 overall pick (2002, with the Texans), came to New York in 2008 in the hopes of revitalizing his career. The Giants were pleased with his play, even though he only saw limited action. He played in nine games in those two years and completed 30 of 45 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions.
