Following up on
a previous item. ... HC Todd Haley cleared up McClain’s role, saying he would be a fullback and not take featured-back snaps away from either Thomas Jones or Jamaal Charles. “He’s a big, physical fullback that obviously in the past has shown really good run ability,” Haley said. “That being said, he’s very clear and we’re very clear that he’s coming in to be our fullback, first and foremost. Improvement at the fullback position one way or another was a must for us.”

The Chiefs were one of the league’s worst teams last year at converting in short-yardage situations, and that’s something the Chiefs believe McClain can help with, as a lead blocker, and perhaps as an occasional ball carrier. McClain played four seasons with the Ravens but was mainly a blocker in all but one of them. In looking for a new team, McClain said he wanted to get the ball more than he did in Baltimore but said he would do whatever the Chiefs asked of him. “If I’ve got to block, I’ll do that,” he said. “If I’ve got to run, I’ll do that. I’ll do anything I can to get a W on the board for the Chiefs. It’s not about me. ..." We'll see about that.
