The Facts:
GM Floyd Reese spent time on the phone Thursday negotiating with James “Bus” Cook, the agent for Steve McNair. Reese called those talks “preliminary,” but he hopes to lay the groundwork for a new deal for McNair, who has a $50 million roster bonus due in March the Titans most certainly cannot pay.

McNair is likely to want a deal that would run for three years. He is coming off a season where he completed 292 of 476 throws with 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. ... According to the Miami Herald -- a paper that has reported McNair as a possible candidate to join the Dolphins, say McNair would like to play for a competitive team again.
