The Facts:
Mangini, a mini-Bill Belichick, has emerged as the front-runner to replace Herman Edwards as coach of the Jets, according to someone with knowledge of the team's thinking. Jets general manager Terry Bradway is scheduled to interview him this week in New England. Vikings coach Mike Tice, a Long Island native from Central Islip, is believed to be the fallback candidate. The Jets are scheduled to speak with him next week.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Mangini, in his first season as coordinator, turns 35 this month and his boyish looks may work against him in terms of earning the players' respect. The Jets, though, seem undaunted and likely feel that Mangini has matured beyond his years having worked under Belichick since 1995 when Belichick was head coach in Cleveland.
