Fassel interviewed Thursday for the St. Louis Rams' head coaching vacancy. Fassel, 56, became the sixth candidate to interview in St. Louis with president John Shaw and president of football operations Jay Zygmunt.

The Rams requested and were granted permission to speak with Fassel on Wednesday. The Rams, who fired Mike Martz, have interviewed Giants defensive coordinator Tim Lewis, Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and Dolphins offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. They are expected to eventually meet with Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.
