The move leaves just re-signed Charlie Whitehurst as their No. 2 quarterback behind Rivers. Volek was due a $750,000 roster bonus. The Chargers won't have to pay it now. It remains to be seen if they'll make an effort to re-sign him to a deal without the bonus.
