ongoing story. ... Here's a little more evidence that the Panthers really are planning on using Tolbert at fullback. They're paying him like a fullback, not a tailback. Tolbert got a four-year deal worth $10 million. That's an average of $2.5 million per year. That's classic fullback money.

After looking back fullback salaries from 2011, ESPN.com's Pat Yasinskas found that only six fullbacks averaged more per season than Tolbert will average in this deal. Top tailbacks make much more than that and some backups are well over $2.5 million. Assuming Tolbert has been brought on board primarily as a fullback and special teams contributor, it seems less likely that either DeAngelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart will be offered up as trade bait. ...
