Assistant head coach Mike Singletary will stay with the 49ers after he was removed from the list of candidates for the Lions' head coaching job, San Francisco coach Mike Nolan said.

Singletary was interviewed by Lions president Matt Millen earlier in the month. Singletary, who's also the 49ers' linebackers coach, spoke with Millen again this week before being ruled out. According to those who follow the Lions closely, former Saints head coach Jim Haslett is emerging as a favorite with Bucs assistant head coach Rod Marinelli also still in the mix.
