The Facts:
Following up on the
ongoing story. ... GM Buddy Nix brought things up to date on where things stand with Jackson and a contract extension for the dynamic RB. Appearing on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Nix explained the plan concerning Jackson, who has a year remaining on his current contract. "Fred and I have visited a couple of times," said Nix. "Fred has been vocal some about wanting a new deal and that kind of thing so finally I called him in and we talked twice. I told him we're going to offer you an extension. We had priorities with guys that were unrestricted that we didn't want to lose. I told him when we get through it we'll at least do it before training camp."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
That jibes with previous comments by Nix, who has made it clear in the past that Jackson, who is scheduled to make $1.955 million in base salary this year, will be offered an extension, because he deserves one. That said, Jackson will have to compete with C.J. Spiller for the starting job. As we've suggested before, if the 31-year old Jackson plays like he did early last year before fracturing his lower leg, he'll be hard to beat out. But if Spiller plays like he did in Jackson's absence down the stretch, he can certainly make a fight of it. ... Stay tuned.
