Steve Smith Contract Details With Rams Revealed
(4/2 10:43 PT)

The Facts:
A league source confirms that Smith's one-year deal with the Rams has a base salary of $1 million. Per the source, another $1.5 million is available via roster bonuses, presumably paid out on a per-game basis. Reported by Profootballtalk.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Two years ago, receiver Steve Smith was a hot commodity after catching 107 passes for 1,220 yards with the Giants. Along the way, he reportedly turned down a five-year, $35 million contract. Smith denied last year that he'd been offered $35 million over five seasons, claiming he would have "signed it and done back flips." PFT's Mike Florio actually heard it was a six-year, $36 million offer that Smith rejected. ... Meanwhile, the Rams were intrigued by Smith after a great workout. "First off, he's a very first-class young man," HC Jeff Fisher said. "Overcame a difficult situation with his knee. The guy had an extraordinary workout, and has a chance to get back where he was in 2009." Indeed, a healthy Smith would've been rated higher than many of the wideouts in this year's free agency pool. In St. Louis, he'll compete with Danario Alexander, who has been slowed by his own knee issues; Danny Amendola, a restricted free agent coming off triceps surgery; Dominique Curry; Brandon Gibson; Greg Salas, who's coming off a broken leg; and Austin Pettis, who will miss the first two games of 2012 under league suspension. It could be a great opportunity for Smith.
