Mikel Leshoure's Status In Substance Abuse Program Will Be Key
(4/2 7:17 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... It's not clear what the legal system has in store for Leshoure, considering his two marijuana-related incidents over the course of three weeks, but he could miss the team's first four regular season games, without pay, under the NFL's substance abuse policy.  Reported by MLive.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As MLive's Philip Zaroo explained, players' statuses within the league's three-stage program are confidential, but we can try to understand a few potential scenarios. seems he would be subject to punishment as a Stage One offender. Discipline for Stage One offenders includes a loss of three weeks' salary and advancement to Stage Two of the intervention program. In Stage Two, players are subject to mandatory treatment, up to 10 random drug tests per month and potentially more evaluation. Under this worst-case scenario, he would be suspended without pay for the Lions' first four regular season games, and would be subject to a fine. ... It's all speculation at this point. But it's certainly safe to assume he's in the program as a Stage One offender at the very least. Detroit played all of last season without its second-round draft pick out of Illinois after Leshoure tore an Achilles tendon in the first week of training camp. He has been recovering well throughout the lengthy recovery process, and was expected to be ready for the beginning of the season. Now it appears the league might have something to say about that. Stay tuned.
