Matt Cassel Fine Competing For Starting Job
(4/18 9:26 PT)

The Facts:
Cassel said at the Chiefs practice facility Tuesday that he'll handle himself the way he's done it since becoming the starter, the way he would have even if he was now a teammate of Manning's. "As a QB in the NFL, you have to have that mentality every day with not only the people in your room but with yourself,' Cassel said. "The minute you start to become lackadaisical and the minute you start not studying as hard, it catches up to you. I've always had the mentality that I have to push myself to be the best I can be, and that's not going to change. I'm always going to look to get better in each and every way.' Reported by the Kansas City Star

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Chiefs began their offseason by promising some competition for Cassel. They at one point tried, with no success, to enter the chase for Peyton Manning. But the Chiefs have started their offseason conditioning program, and Cassel is still standing as the unchallenged starter. "Every year when you go into the offseason you never know what kind of transactions are going to take place,' Cassel said. "To me, you just kind of keep an open mind to what's going on." Their other QBs are Brady Quinn and Rick Stanzi, so unless the Chiefs select a QB in an early round of the draft next week, Cassel will for the fourth straight season only have token competition for his job.
