Robert Griffin III Believes Newton-Like Success Is Possible
(4/27 3:33 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... Cam Newton last season surprised people by making an immediate impact as a rookie for the Carolina Panthers, but Griffin doesn't think it's a stretch to expect that he can similar contributions right away for the Redskins. "Cam came in and did a lot of great things early on, but I've always felt that if you know how to play football, don't come to the NFL and act like you've never played football before," Griffin said. "If you learn the offense and do the things you're supposed to do to be successful, you'll be all right. This is our job. ... I'll take it seriously, it'll be my first priority outside of family, and I'll go from there." Reported by the Washington Post

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
One of the keys to Newton's success was flexibility on the part of the Panthers, who implemented some of the schemes he ran while at Auburn, to help ease his transition to the NFL. Griffin said from talking to Mike Shanahan, he will be asked for some input on the Redskins' playbook. ... Whether that's the case or not, ESPN's Todd McShay believes Griffin is the perfect guy to run Shanahan's offense, which is a strong zone-blocking run game and a passing game that wants the QB to roll out, throw a lot of bootlegs and motion some off play action and that leads to a lot of half-field reads and scrambles, which fits RG3 perfectly. They will also use a lot of motions and shifts and multi-receiver packages to give him a lot of options in the passing game. He will always be a threat to tuck the ball and run. They worked hard to give him a supporting cast in free agency. ... In other words, the Skins are doing what they can to accelerate Griffin's development.
