The Facts:
Following up on the
ongoing story. ... Cruz is scheduled to make $540,000 after his breakout 2011 season and is looking for a new deal. He turned down an offer to appear on "Dancing With The Stars,' a move endorsed by GM Jerry Reese. "He had one good year, one good year don't make you a great football player,' Reese said. "It means you had one good year. He's a smart young man, I think he wants to focus on what's most important, and that's football. I think maybe at some point later on in his career he might be able to do that but right now I think he's focused on trying to be a good football player.'

Anybody else get the impression that Cruz might get his new deal before others? Remember, Cruz has made it clear holding out is not an option. "That's not even in my vocabulary," Cruz recently said when asked about that possibility. "I don't even know what that means. ..." Cruz, who finished 2011 ranked third in the NFL in receiving, is entering the final year of his contract before he becomes a restricted free agent. Based on the comments by both sides, it would appear Cruz will ultimately be rewarded for his efforts. The Giants would certainly be wise to lock him up before it becomes a real issue.
