The Facts:
For all the coddling that Sanchez has received by the Jets organization in his first three years, QBs coach Matt Cavanaugh has never sugarcoated the truth with the young QB. After Sanchez's uneven season that included a career-high 26 touchdown passes and a career-high 26 turnovers, Cavanaugh laid out his goals for the QB, including becoming an effective game manager in Tony Sparano's new offensive system. "There were turnovers that were not his fault that were credited to him," Cavanaugh said. "But there were enough that playing that position he needs to cut some of those down. Most of them came from just poor decision-making."

Sanchez had thrown for 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions before an epic three-week meltdown that included nine turnovers to end the season. Despite the turnovers, Cavanaugh echoed Sanchez's sentiment that the Jets' starter doesn't need Tim Tebow, or any other quarterback, to push him to become better. Cavanaugh reiterated that Sanchez still has the requisite skill set to become a champion if he becomes more consistent. "He knows he has that ability," Cavanaugh added. But can Sanchez deal with Tebowmania? "I think he's going to have to," Cavanaugh said. "He knows that he needs to play more consistently. That's the only focus I want him to have. Because it's too distracting (and) it takes too much energy to worry about other things. ..." Stay tuned.
