"I compete every practice," he said. "I know perfect isn't really ever achievable, but I like to think it is. I'm plenty competitive and I get really mad at myself, just like anybody would if you expect it to be perfect. When you miss a throw, miss something easy that you know you can make, the biggest thing is you just have to bounce back."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Starting his second NFL season and his first offseason, Gabbert was named the starting quarterback by Mularkey despite his rocky rookie season and the signing of veteran Chad Henne. It hasn't changed Gabbert's competitive outlook. "If you don't go out there and compete in every aspect of your life - your football life, I should say - in the weight room, in the film room, on the football field, you're not going to be successful. You know somebody, somewhere is busting their tail harder than you," he said. Still, as Times-Union staffer Vito Stellino notes, Gabbert still has plenty of doubters to prove wrong -- with Fantasy owners chief among them. And it's going to take more than a strong offseason and good attitude to change that.
