ongoing story. ... GM Mickey Loomis reaffirmed his commitment to signing Brees to a new contract. Loomis said he held no ill will towards Brees despite the quarterback’s recent interview in which he expressed “frustration” with the pace -- or lack thereof -- of negotiations. “I feel with him. He wants to be here right now. I want him to be here right now. We’ll work hard to get that accomplished" he said. "Drew loves the Saints and we love Drew.”

Loomis said Brees’ deal is the most important contract he has ever handled and that it will get done. Owner Tom Benson also said a deal would get done with the team’s franchise QB. "This is important. It’s not just important to Drew, but it’s important to our team. The magnitude of this contract is going to impact our team for a long, long period of time. So, we’ve got to get it right," he said. ... Remember: Brees continues to make the case that team officials are the ones dragging their feet on a new deal. The QB claims his camp has reached out several times without a response from the Saints.
