The Facts:
Following up on the
ongoing story. ... GM Ruston Webster said the competition for the starting QB job between Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker is already well underway. Webster said he and the coaching staff are going over practice video of the two QBs on a daily basis, and that they will be charting throws and keeping statistics from practices as well. "It's very detailed," Webster said. "Stats are a part of it. But like I've said before, I'm not a huge stats guy."

In fact, Webster suggested the decision between Hasselbeck and Locker will be based in part on the biggest of intangibles. "It will probably be a gut feel more than anything else," the GM explained. "I think they'll both do well. But I think it will be a gut feel, so you kind of just go with what you feel is best - (the player) who, in a tight race, we feel like has the best chance to help us win, even though we're comfortable with either one of them. ..." In a perfect world, the decision would be reached early in training camp, but that's probably not realistic. "I'd hope," Webster told the Tennessean, "but I'm not sure that happens. ..." We're still expecting Hasselbeck to come out as the Week 1 starter -- and we expect him to hold onto it the job as long as he remains effective. And based on recent seasons, that will depend greatly on the veteran remaining healthy. But whether it's Hasselbeck or Locker, we're no laying off Titans receivers.
