Dexter McCluster Back At WR... For Now
(5/29 12:21 PT)

The Facts:
For the second time in his still-young NFL career, McCluster is a wide receiver. But stay tuned to his situation, because soon he could be a running back, also for the second time. Reported by the Kansas City Star

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As Star staffer Adam Teicher suggested, that's a lot of movement for a player who joined the Chiefs only two years ago. But it suggests the rather obvious: The Chiefs are struggling to find some value from McCluster, the first of their two second-round picks in 2010. Teicher went on to explain the move makes some sense from a depth-chart perspective. At RB, Jamaal Charles is returning from a season lost to a torn knee ligament, though Charles has yet to participate in offseason practice. They also signed veteran Peyton Hillis and drafted Texas A&M's Cyrus Gray, though Gray has a sore hamstring and didn't participate in the most recent practice on Thursday. The Chiefs aren't as deep at WR, particularly with their leading pass catcher, Dwayne Bowe, being unsigned and not participating in the offseason work. With Bowe gone, Steve Breaston and Jonathan Baldwin are the starters. Veteran Terrance Copper caught a couple of long touchdown passes in practice last week. The Chiefs also drafted Devon Wylie, also a kick returner, in the fourth round. But otherwise, their receivers are a collection of unproven players. So at least until Bowe returns, there's a need for McCluster as a receiver.
