The Facts:
Following up on the
ongoing story. ... Don't expect to be bowled over by Bill Belichick with an announcement of who his starting running back will be this fall. Not now. Not after training camp. Not ever. This will be a running back by committee situation and Steven Ridley and Shane Vereen will lead the way, which is why the health of each player will be more important than ever in determining touches.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
So wrote Globe staffer Zuri Berry, who went on to suggest that Joseph Addai will push for his share of the pie, but with his history of health issues, one has to wonder how vigorously he can compete. Similarly, Vereen is presumably healthy to split time with Ridley. Ridley and Vereen have been sharing the first- and second-team reps in recent workouts and there's no reason to believe the two will be the primary weapons. But there's also no reason to believe you'll be able to figure out which one will play the leading role from week to week -- unless, as Berry suggests, health is an issue. That said, we'll continue to watch for more.
