As PFT's Michael David Smith suggests, the news hardly comes as a surprise, as the Patriots already had two very talented tight ends in Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, signed another tight end previously in Daniel Fells, and claimed tight end Jake Ballard off waivers from the Giants. Hard to argue with Smith's contention that Scaife wasn’t going to make the 53-man roster, and he’s probably better off getting cut now than getting cut later.
