The Facts:
Following up on a
previous item. ... Johnson left team headquarters on Thursday at 200 pounds. He’s planning on returning a little heavier to have himself prepared for training camp. After playing last season in the 191-pound range, Johnson said he’d like to be in the 197- to 198-pound range this fall. “I want to be a little heavier because it makes me feel a little sturdier and it helps me make it through the whole season with the bumps and bruises,’’ he said.

This is the same thing Johnson said earlier this month. It would appear that he means it. The big question is whether the additional bulk will slow him down? Johnson has 5,645 rushing yards in his first four NFL seasons, the most yardage of any running back in the NFL since the beginning of the 2008 season. Still, he came up short with just 1,047 yards last season. HC Mike Munchak has been impressed with how hard Johnson was working at putting on muscle. Johnson also said he’ll be running hills to build up his leg muscles. Still, Johnson's game is based on speed and quickness. It'll be interesting to see how the additional bulk affects that. We'll obviously be watching for more when camp opens at the end of July.
