Agent: Jaguars Haven't Talked To Josh Scobee In Months
(6/26 11:22 PT)

The Facts:
The Jaguars and Scobee, the team's franchise free agent, still have 21 days to agree on a long-term deal, but there are no talks currently taking place. And they haven't talked for months. Scobee's agent emailed, “Josh has asked me not to discuss specifics of negotiations other than what has already been said. That is, we had some talks early on involving proposals from both sides, but haven’t heard back from them in months. We know our last proposal is very fair.’’ Reported by the Florida Times-Union

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Since Scobee is a free agent and the Jaguars put a franchise tag on him, the NFL rules state that he can’t sign a long term deal after July 16 until the end of the season. The two sides can still negotiate after July 16, but Scobee could only sign a one year deal before the season is over. The franchise tag calls for him to make $2.88 million. Since Scobee is not under contract, he can skip training camp without being fined. If Scobee doesn’t get a deal before July 16, his options would seem to be whether to sign a one-year deal and join the team at the start or during camp, wait until the end of the camp to sign a one-year deal or go into the regular season without signing and start missing paychecks. Based on the $2.88 franchise number, Scobee would be paid about $170,000 a game during the regular season. It remains to be seen if the two sides will conduct any discussions before July 16. The Jaguars report to camp on July 26 and conduct their first practice on July 27.
